When it comes to having firefighting equipment, you can never be too safe. There are many types of firefighting equipment that work in various ways to combat fires. Two common types of equipment that you may see are fire hydrants and fire hose reels. Find out the difference between the two below:

Fire hose reels

Fire hose reels are a great form of fire safety for commercial and residential buildings. They are often found in office buildings, shopping malls and other areas. These fire hose reels are permanently connected to the water supply and are ready to be used should there be a fire that needs to be put out, allowing civilians to act immediately when a fire breaks out instead of having to wait for the fire department to arrive. If they are maintained correctly, fire hose reels will act as a form of fire protection for years to come.

Fire hydrants

Fire hydrants are a direct point of connection to a water supply. Unlike fire hose reels, the fire hydrants are not ready to jump into action but will need a hose attachment to begin fulfilling their purpose. When faced with a fire emergency, firefighters will attach a hose to the fire hydrants to gain access to a large amount of water at a high pressure to react to the emergency. These fire hydrants are usually found in public areas; however, some individuals do have privately owned fire hydrants on their properties.
