Flammables such as certain chemicals and oily rags should not be stored in the office. They should be placed into the appropriate containers and disposed of immediately after use. Businesses that frequently work with flammable items should follow strict guidelines regarding their use and storage.
Awareness of equipment
There are regulations that dictate the number of fire extinguishers that a business must have – due to its size. Each fire extinguisher will be paired with a sign indicating where it is. It is important for employees to pay attention to their surroundings so that they know where the equipment is in case of an emergency.
Educate employees
Employees should not only know where the equipment is, they should be aware of how to use the equipment. They should also be educated on other prevention techniques and how to behave if the fire cannot be prevented.
